Driver Injured In Brandywine Train Accident

Train Accident Seriously Injures Driver

On February 6, 2013, around 4:30 pm, police officers responded to Brandywine Road near Ice Plant Road for a train accident in Prince George’s County. According to the Prince George’s County Police Department, preliminary investigation revealed the driver of a 2001 Ford Mustang was believed to have attempted to cross the railroad tracks as the lights were flashing red. An oncoming CSX train struck the car. The car’s driver was ejected and suffered serious head trauma. The driver was in critical condition at an area hospital.

Train Accident Statistics

The Federal Railway Administration tracks train accident statistics, including injuries and fatalities caused by a train accident. In 2012, for example, there were 1,545 train accidents. Of these train accidents, 184 involved non-fatal injuries. Fortunately, only 8 involved fatalities. But even one fatality is too many for the families who lose a loved one.
