87-Year Old Driver Strikes Tree in Fatal Car Accident

On Saturday, July 21, 2012, the driver of a 1999 Chevrolet S-10 pickup truck was traveling eastbound on Route 99, near Old Saint Johns Lane in Ellicott City, at about 1:45 p.m. when it left the road and struck a tree, according to The Baltimore Sun. Harold Paul Mazmanian was pronounced dead at the scene.

Howard County police said a preliminary investigation indicated that the primary cause of the collision was that the driver failed to reduce speed in the rainy conditions. Route 99 was closed for more than two hours as police investigated.
