Electrocution Accident on Construction Site Kills Man

Electrocution Accident on Construction Site Kills Man

On Tuesday, August 14, 2012, a man working on a construction site for a new home in Howard County was killed in an electrocution accident, according to The Baltimore Sun.

The worker, Emeterio Badillo Soto, 29, of Hyattsville, was carrying metal scaffolding at the site in the 9200 block of Furrow Avenue when it touched an electrical wire. Howard County Police reported that Howard County fire and rescue personnel responded and provided CPR, but the worker died at the scene.

Electrocution Injury is Leading Cause of Construction Injuries and Deaths

The second leading cause of worker deaths on construction sites is electrocution accidents, according to the United States Occupational Safety and Health Administration. An electrocution injury is a horrific way to die. Even workers who survive may suffer horribly painful injuries, often resulting in terrible disfigurement.

Now, when drivers even glance at a text, they break the law. Injury victims’ claims of negligence are therefore strengthened when negotiating with and litigating against insurers and other relevant parties.

Distracted Driving Can Cause a Car Accident

Driving Distracted Now a Cause of Car Accidents

Technology advances have produced remarkably sophisticated cell phones. That, together with social media, has resulted in many drivers talking on cell phones while driving; texting while driving; and reading emails while driving. Phone use while driving can now result in a car accident because the driver takes his or her attention off the road, and engages in distracted driving. There are now public safety campaigns to educate drivers, particular young drivers, about the dangers, such as http://www.enddd.org/.

Maryland Law Prohibits Cell Phone Use While Driving

A recent law enacted in Maryland prohibits the use of a cell phone while driving, including texting while driving and cell phone use while driving. There is an exception if the driver is using a hands free device, or making an emergency 911 call.

Drivers Injured in Howard County Head On Collision

Howard County Head On Collision Sends Two to Shock Trauma Center

On Thursday, August 9, 2012, at about 3 p.m., two cars traveling on Route 108 in Howard County near the Montgomery County line were involved in a head on collision. A woman driving a 2011 Chevrolet Aveo eastbound on Maryland Route 108 crossed the center line and collided with a 1999 GMC Yukon traveling westbound, resulting in a head on car collision, according to The Baltimore Sun.

Lawrence Harris, 57, of Upper Marlboro, the driver of the Yukon, was taken by Maryland State Police medevac helicopter to Maryland Shock Trauma. The collision is still under investigation. The cause appeared to be the Chevrolet driver’s failure to keep her car to the right of the center line, police said.

Injuries and Deaths Caused by Head On Collision

A head on collision can result in serious injuries, and sometimes deaths, because the speed of both vehicles traveling in opposite directions, combined with the weight of the vehicles, creates tremendous forces. A car crash head on therefore is capable of causing catastrophic harm. Often, fault lies with one driver who crossed the center line.

If you or a loved one has been injured in a head on collision, or a head on car collision, a car accident attorney experienced with head on collision cases can help.

Man Injured In Train Accident with Car

CSX Train Involved in Baltimore County Train Accident with Car

On Wednesday, August 8, 2012, an intermodal CSX train traveling north from Florida collided with a Volvo at the railway’s intersection with Schaefer’s Lane near Pulaski Highway, reported The Baltimore Sun. The driver of the car in the train accident was injured and transported to Maryland Shock Trauma Center with serious injuries that did not appear to be life-threatening.

Apparently, the intersection did not have barrier arms that descend when a train is passing through, only signs warning of trains. This might have posed a hazard to the car’s driver, making a train accident more likely.

Howard County Train Derails on Same Day as Train Accident With Car

On the same day as the Baltimore County train accident, another CSX freight train briefly derailed in Woodstock, Howard County. The train was traveling east from Cumberland to Baltimore through the railway’s intersection with the 1400 block of Woodstock Road when one of its cars momentarily came off the tracks, only to return shortly thereafter.

Fortunately, no one was injured in the Howard County train accident. Two train accidents in the same day illustrates the fact that train accidents are more common than many people believe. Catastrophic injuries, and even death, can occur when a car is involved in a train wreck.

Overturned Tractor Trailer Causes Howard County Truck Accident

Semi Truck Overturns on I95 Exit Ramp to Route 100

On Thursday, July 26, 2012, Howard County Department of Fire and Rescue Services personnel responded to a semi truck accident on I-95 north. The semi truck was carrying 40,000 lbs of sugar. When the tractor trailer overturned, sugar and diesel fuel were dumped on the road, causing first responders to close the exit ramp to Route 100, reported The Baltimore Sun. Fortunately, the driver was not injured and managed to get out of the truck.

Semi Truck Accidents Can Cause Serious Injuries and Deaths

While this truck accident involved only the truck, and the driver escaped without injury, many semi truck accidents have caused catastrophic injuries and deaths. A truck accident can be caused by the truck driver falling asleep; an overloaded and overweight truck; and defective truck equipment from overuse or lack of necessary maintenance. Sometimes trucking companies and truck drivers are under pressure to keep costs down, and to move freight quickly. Safety takes a back seat, and innocent members of the public pay the price.

Columbia Teenager Injured in Car Bicycle Accident

On Monday, August 6, 2012, a Columbia teenager was injured seriously in a car bicycle accident. The 14-year old was riding a bicycle at the intersection of Governor Warfield Parkway and Twin Rivers Road at 12:50 p.m., according to The Baltimore Sun. A car drove through a green light and struck the bicyclist, resulting in a serious bicycle accident. The cyclist was airlifted to Johns Hopkins Children’s Center.

Injuries and Deaths from Bicycle Accidents

In 2010, 618 people were killed, and 52,000 people were injured, in bicycle accidents in the United States, according to a leading source of bicycle accident statistics. Why Are Trucking Accidents so Complex?

Maryland Truck Driver Negligence and Howard County Trucking Accident Lawyer maryland truck accident lawyer

Trucking accidents are very complex. If you were injured in a Maryland trucking accident or lost a family member to a truck wreck on a Baltimore highway, you should seek experienced counsel from a personal injury attorney with trucking accident experience.

Trucking accidents are not as frequent as car accidents; however, because of the size of a truck, trucking accidents are often fatal or involve very serious injury. But it is neither the complexity nor seriousness of the injury nor the amount of compensation involved that makes trucking accidents so complex, it is a myriad of other factors.

Factors that Make Trucking Accidents More Complex than Auto Accidents

  1. Trucking Rules and Regulations – Trucks and truck drivers have different rules and regulations they must follow when operating on the road. For example, truck drivers are limited in the number of hours they can be driving each day. Unfortunately, greed or a need to earn more income makes some truck drivers disobey the law and put your safety at risk due to truck driver fatigue. Some truck drivers try to take drugs, caffeine or energy drinks to stay awake, but this is a poor substitute for sleep, and their reflexes are likely not nearly as sharp, putting you and your family at risk. An experienced trucking accident attorney will know and understand the trucking rules and regulations to determine if a failure to follow those rules or regulations contributed to the accident.
  2. Parties Involved in a Trucking Accident – One of the biggest factors that make trucking so complex is that there are often many parties involved, and sometimes multiple parties may have contributed to a trucking accident or 18-wheeler fatality. For example, the truck driver could have contributed to the accident due to truck driver negligence; the owner of the truck rig (not necessarily the driver) could have contributed to the trucking accident due to failure to inspect or maintain brakes or other truck rig parts; the owner of the truck trailer (typically someone else) could have also contributed to a trucking accident by failing to inspect tires or tail lights on the truck’s trailer; the company that provided the driver could have contributed to the accident by failing to perform a proper background check on the driver; the people who loaded the truck trailer could have contributed to a trucking accident by failing to properly load the trailer; trucking parts companies could contribute to a trucking accident by supplying the wrong parts or defective parts. An experienced trucking accident attorney can ensure all parties have been examined and are included in any claim. Failure to include a party who may have been partially or fully responsible for a trucking accident could seriously jeopardize your claim and the amount of compensation you receive.

If you, or a family member, were injured in a Maryland trucking accident, you should seek counsel from an experienced personal injury attorney Maryland trucking accident lawyer to ensure you, and your family, receive the compensation you deserve.
