Teenager Dies In Columbia Fatal Car Accident

Howard County Fatal Car Accident Kills One and Injures Three

On Thursday, July 12, Shaquan Jamal Curtis, age 17, was driving an Audi on Columbia Road, lost control, left the road, and struck a tree, according to The Baltimore Sun. This fatal car crash accident killed Curtis, and injured three of his passengers. The passengers in this fatal car accident were Obafami Oyeniyi Ilupeju, 21, and Tres Quante Jones and Dontrell Milner, who are both 20-years-old. They were taken by ambulance or Medivac to the Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore, all in serious condition, Howard County police said.

Accidents in Cars Often Result from Excessive Speed or Alcohol

Excessive speed caused the collision that closed Columbia Road for three hours. Alcohol may have been a contributing factor, Howard County police said. Many car crashes result from excessive speed and alcohol use by the driver. However, just because the driver is at fault doesn’t mean that the passengers aren’t entitled to compensation for their injuries, medical expenses, and lost income.

Passengers Aren’t Responsible for the Actions of the Driver

The driver is in control of the car, and therefore even if the driver is at fault in causing the car accident, the passengers may still be able to pursue a legal claim for their injuries. An experienced car accident attorney can investigate the circumstances and determine whether the passengers have a valid legal claim for the driver’s carelessness or negligence.
