A car crash on March 27 injured a one-year-old girl after her mother allegedly collided with a Columbia school bus, reported The Baltimore Sun. The girl was released from the Baltimore’s John Hopkins children Center where she had been treated after the car crash. Howard County Police stated that the mom, Columbia resident Ashley Nicole Smith, 23, had tried to turn left in front of a school bus on Little Patuxent Parkway near Hickory Ridge Road.
Fortunately, no one in the bus was injured. There were five people on the school bus, including the driver and two aids, and two students. The Acura driven by Ashley was struck on the rear passenger side, where the child was strapped in her safety seat.
At the time of the car crash the school bus was traveling to the Forbush School in Hunt Valley. The Forbush School, according to its website, provides “special education and related services for children ages 5 to 21 with autism . . . ” A second school bus came to take the students to school. At this time, no charges have been filed but the Howard County Police continue to investigate the car accident.
When people take unnecessary risks on the road, they put themselves, their loved ones, and other drivers and passengers in danger. Making a left turn in front of an oncoming vehicle is considered a negligent or careless act, and could cause a car crash. If you have suffered an injury from a car crash that was caused by another person’s carelessness, whether they turned in front of you, or rear-ended you, or in some other way acted carelessly to cause your injuries, you may be able to pursue a legal claim to pay for your medical treatment and other losses.
