Howard County Semi Truck Accident Blocks Route 29

Howard County Semi Truck Accident at Routes 29 and 32

At 9:35 a.m. on Friday, July 27, 2012, a tractor trailer overturned on Route 29 near its intersection with Route 32 in Howard County, causing the truck accident to block the entire road and snarl traffic, reported The Baltimore Sun. Howard County police stated that the driver of the semi truck and its passenger sustained only minor injuries.

The semi truck was the only vehicle involved in the truck accident, and police had not yet determined the cause.

Semi Truck Accident Statistics

There are approximately 295,000 truck accidents each year involving large trucks, according to the most recent federal government truck accident statistics. Only about 3% of those semi truck accidents involve a rollover.

Tractor trailer truck accidents can be some of the most serious, resulting not just in injuries, but deaths. This is because of the large size of tractor trailers, and the weight of the truck along with any cargo.

If you or a family member have been injured or killed as a result of a semi truck accident, or tractor trailer accident, an experienced truck accident lawyer can be of great assistance.

How Do You Find a Lawyer?

How to Find a Lawyer

When you need to find a lawyer, many people don’t know how to go about it, or where to start. Here are some basic ways to find a lawyer:

  • Ask family, friends, and co-workers for a referral. Often, other people you know and trust can tell you about their personal experience with an attorney.
  • Use Internet Search Engines. Using an internet search engine, such as Google, Yahoo, or Bing, can be a quick way to find lawyers. You should search both geographically and topically. For example, search “car accident lawyer” “Howard County, MD.”
  • Lawyer Directories. There are many online lawyer directories that can help you find a lawyer by searching the area of law and the geographical area where you want to find attorneys. Two of the largest and best lawyer directories are http://www.lawyers.com/ and http://www.findlaw.com/. A third trusted source is http://www.martindale.com/.

Finding lawyers isn’t that difficult. Your next question probably is, “how do I find a good lawyer?”

How to Find a Good Lawyer

There are many factors to consider in evaluating lawyers, and finding a good lawyer. Here are some of the most important ones:

  • Ratings of lawyers (peer ratings, i.e. what do other lawyers and judges say about a lawyer’s skill and ethics)
  • Lawyers ratings by clients
  • Client reviews
  • A lawyer’s track record of results in actual cases
  • Number of years a lawyer has been practicing law
  • Legal publications authored by the lawyer
  • Teaching or presentations made by the lawyer to other lawyers
  • Positions in bar associations and other legal organizations

Lawyers Reviews and Ratings

There are organizations that development lawyer ratings and reviews. The oldest and most respected is Martindale-Hubbell (http://www.martindale.com/). Lawyers are rated confidentially by judges and other lawyers for their legal ability and ethics. The highest rating is “AV Preeminent.” Only a small, select number of attorneys receive this coveted premier rating.

Another source that rates lawyers is http://www.avvo.com/. This resource calculates a numerical rating, the highest being “10.0 Superb.” This rating system considers a lawyer’s years in practice, disciplinary history, professional achievements and industry recognition.

Lawyer Reviews and Ratings by Clients

Martindale.com permits clients to rate their lawyers, and to provide online reviews. This is an invaluable source of information by clients about their own attorneys.

Avvo.com also permits clients to post reviews of their lawyers. This is an excellent source to see how clients evaluate the experience they have had with their lawyers.

Instrument or Sponge Left in Body after Surgery

One well-known and potentially serious and even fatal instance of surgical malpractice is the failure to remove a sponge or other surgical instrument during surgery. Teenager Dies in Columbia Fatal Car Accident

Howard County Fatal Car Accident Kills One and Injures Three

On Thursday, July 12, Shaquan Jamal Curtis, age 17, was driving an Audi on Columbia Road, lost control, left the road, and struck a tree, according to The Baltimore Sun. This fatal car crash accident killed Curtis, and injured three of his passengers. The passengers in this fatal car accident were Obafami Oyeniyi Ilupeju, 21, and Tres Quante Jones and Dontrell Milner, who are both 20-years-old. They were taken by ambulance or Medivac to the Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore, all in serious condition, Howard County police said.

Accidents in Cars Often Result from Excessive Speed or Alcohol

Excessive speed caused the collision that closed Columbia Road for three hours. Alcohol may have been a contributing factor, Howard County police said. Many car crashes result from excessive speed and alcohol use by the driver. However, just because the driver is at fault doesn’t mean that the passengers aren’t entitled to compensation for their injuries, medical expenses, and lost income.

Passengers Aren’t Responsible for the Actions of the Driver

The driver is in control of the car, and therefore even if the driver is at fault in causing the car accident, the passengers may still be able to pursue a legal claim for their injuries. An experienced car accident attorney can investigate the circumstances and determine whether the passengers have a valid legal claim for the driver’s carelessness or negligence.

Why Are Trucking Accidents so Complex?

Maryland Truck Driver Negligence and Howard County Trucking Accident

Trucking accidents are very complex. If you were injured in a Maryland trucking accidenttruck-accident or lost a family member to a truck wreck on a Baltimore highway, you should seek experienced counsel from a personal injury attorney with trucking accident experience.

Trucking accidents are not as frequent as car accidents; however, because of the size of a truck, trucking accidents are often fatal or involve very serious injury. But it is neither the complexity nor seriousness of the injury nor the amount of compensation involved that makes trucking accidents so complex, it is a myriad of other factors.

Factors that Make Trucking Accidents More Complex than Auto Accidents

  • Trucking Rules and Regulations – Trucks and truck drivers have different rules and regulations they must follow when operating on the road. For example, truck drivers are limited in the number of hours they can be driving each day. Unfortunately, greed or a need to earn more income makes some truck drivers disobey the law and put your safety at risk due to truck driver fatigue. Some truck drivers try to take drugs, caffeine or energy drinks to stay awake, but this is a poor substitute for sleep, and their reflexes are likely not nearly as sharp, putting you and your family at risk. An experienced trucking accident attorney will know and understand the trucking rules and regulations to determine if a failure to follow those rules or regulations contributed to the accident.
  • Parties Involved in a Trucking Accident – One of the biggest factors that make trucking so complex is that there are often many parties involved, and sometimes multiple parties may have contributed to a trucking accident or 18-wheeler fatality. For example, the truck driver could have contributed to the accident due to truck driver negligence; the owner of the truck rig (not necessarily the driver) could have contributed to the trucking accident due to failure to inspect or maintain brakes or other truck rig parts; the owner of the truck trailer (typically someone else) could have also contributed to a trucking accident by failing to inspect tires or tail lights on the truck’s trailer; the company that provided the driver could have contributed to the accident by failing to perform a proper background check on the driver; the people who loaded the truck trailer could have contributed to a trucking accident by failing to properly load the trailer; trucking parts companies could contribute to a trucking accident by supplying the wrong parts or defective parts. An experienced trucking accident attorney can ensure all parties have been examined and are included in any claim. Failure to include a party who may have been partially or fully responsible for a trucking accident could seriously jeopardize your claim and the amount of compensation you receive.

If you, or a family member, were injured in a Maryland trucking accident, you should seek counsel from an experienced personal injury attorney Maryland trucking accident lawyer to ensure you, and your family, receive the compensation you deserve.
