Overturned Tractor Trailer Causes Howard County Truck Accident

Semi Truck Overturns on I95 Exit Ramp to Route 100

On Thursday, July 26, 2012, Howard County Department of Fire and Rescue Services personnel responded to a semi truck accident on I-95 north. The semi truck was carrying 40,000 lbs of sugar. When the tractor trailer overturned, sugar and diesel fuel were dumped on the road, causing first responders to close the exit ramp to Route 100, reported The Baltimore Sun. Fortunately, the driver was not injured and managed to get out of the truck.

Semi Truck Accidents Can Cause Serious Injuries and Deaths

While this truck accident involved only the truck, and the driver escaped without injury, many semi truck accidents have caused catastrophic injuries and deaths. A truck accident can be caused by the truck driver falling asleep; an overloaded and overweight truck; and defective truck equipment from overuse or lack of necessary maintenance. Sometimes trucking companies and truck drivers are under pressure to keep costs down, and to move freight quickly. Safety takes a back seat, and innocent members of the public pay the price.
