Fatal Car Accident on Folly Quarter Road

Howard County police are investigating a fatal crash that occurred on May 31, 2012, on Folly Quarter Road in west Ellicott City. Police were called to the scene in the 4300 block of Folly Quarter Road just after 2 p.m.

Police investigation revealed that a 1994 Ford Mustang was traveling northbound on Folly Quarter Road and was stopped in the roadway preparing to make a left turn into a driveway. A 1991 Ford Taurus came up behind the Mustang and tried to pass it on the left, crossing the double yellow line, just as the Mustang was turning. The Taurus struck the side of the Mustang and then hit a pole.

The driver of the Taurus was pronounced dead at the hospital. His passenger in the front seat was transported to Shock Trauma in critical, but stable, condition. They were the only two occupants. The two occupants of the Mustang were not injured. Preliminary investigation showed that the Taurus was at fault for failure to stay right of the center line, according to Howard County police. No charges have been filed.
