Promising Freshman Running Back Naval Midshipman Dies Collapsing Practice

Tragedy struck when a promising freshman running back and Naval Academy midshipman collapsed at football practice. He was taken to the Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore, where he remained in a coma for three days before dying.*

The news was devastating to the Naval Academy and the boy’s family. He was evidently in spring practice when he collapsed and was subsequently airlifted to the Shock Trauma Center. The family said in a statement released through the school that the young man had not had a “bad hit or unusual or extreme contact” during the practice.

Navy coaches are reviewing all films of practice, but have found nothing so far. The promising young man had everything to look forward to. He had also played high school football, coached by his own father. During a game in 2012, when he was a senior, he had been injured in the head and went to the hospital. But he had been cleared to play again after extensive testing.
